If your exposure time was a second or more and you elected to use the timer when that option was offered, you’ll now see the screen at left. The calculated time will be displayed ready for use and the timer “Count Down” mode is the default setting. If the “Delay Start by 3 sec.” box is not checked tapping“Start” will activate the timer immediately, and the numbers will indicate the time remaining. In this normal operating mode the Pilot will beep once when 10 seconds remains; again at 9 seconds, and you’ll hear a 2-tone beep when the time has expired. The screen will then display the original time again in case you want to repeat it.
Using the stylus and the cable release at the same time can be awkward but you can simplify the operation if you check the “Delay Start...” box. Then, when you tap Start the timer will beep three times to indicate elapsed seconds before starting the actual timed interval. This feature allows you time to put down the stylus and pick up the cable release without having to hurry.
You can use the up/down arrows or buttons to increment the time sequentially. You can also adjust the minutes or seconds independently; if you tap on one pair of digits to highlight it, the up/down arrows or buttons will affect that pair only. Tapping the small dot at the right of the up/down arrows, will return the changed (or selected) digits to “00.” Tap the “Reset” button to restore the entire display to “00:00." Tap “Reset” again to restore the display.
By selecting “Count Up” you can use the timer as a stop watch with one-tenth second accuracy. You’ll see the tenths displayed in small numbers at the right of the time display.
While the timer is operating the “Start and Reset” buttons and the “Count Up/Down” selection fields are replaced by a single “Pause” button, shown at left. Tapping it will stop the timer; to resume the timing sequence tap the button again. Notice that there will be no delay in restarting the timer after a pause; the 3-second delay, mentioned above, is activated only at the beginning of a timing cycle.
Tap the “Next” button to proceed to the “Log” screen.
